Shopping for Style, Comfort, and Performance

As an avid yogi and gym-goer, I’m always on the hunt for activewear that is both stylish and functional. I love wearing colorful, eye-catching pieces that make me feel good when I workout or run errands. Recently, I became intrigued by the Zella jumpsuit – a chic, one-piece outfit perfect for yoga, barre, pilates, or just casual wear. I had seen people raving about Zella on social media, so I decided to embark on a mission to find the perfect jumpsuit for me. Little did I know what an adventure it would be!

What is a Zella Jumpsuit?

For those unfamiliar with the brand, Zella is a women’s activewear company owned by Nordstrom. Their jumpsuits are soft, stretchy, and moisture-wicking – great for both working out and wearing around town. The jumpsuit is a one-piece outfit with a sleeveless or short sleeve top and wide-legged pants. The fabric is designed to be breathable, sweat-wicking, and flattering for different body types.

Zella features both solid color and printed jumpsuits made from performance fabrics like compression jersey, merino wool, ponte knit, and more. When I began researching, I discovered they have tons of awesome jumpsuit styles – halter neck, cold shoulder cut-outs, backless, zip-up, drawstring waists, pockets – you name it! The options seemed endless.

Trying on Different Styles and Fits

The first step of my jumpsuit journey was trying a bunch of styles on in store. I quickly learned that Zella jumpsuits come in standard numerical sizes, but the fit can vary depending on the fabric. Some styles run large while others come small.

The halter jumpsuit with a deep v-neck was super flattering on my frame, cinching in at the waist. I also loved the feel of the buttery-soft jersey fabric against my skin. However, the long pants were a little too loose and billowy for my liking.

Next, I tried on a cold-shoulder style with a front zipper and short legs – almost like culottes. The chest and thighs were a bit tight, and the fabric had less stretch. But I liked the sporty cut and fun cold-shoulder cut-outs.

The key for me was finding the right balance of comfort and slimming silhouette. I wanted a jumpsuit that felt like a second skin while allowing free range of motion. I was starting to dial in my preferences!

Perfect for Yoga and Beyond

One of my criteria was finding a jumpsuit suitable for yoga and working out. I do hot yoga several times a week, so I needed something up for the sweaty challenge. I tried a few bold-printed jumpsuits with moisture-wicking jersey fabric – perfect!

The stretchy material enabled me to move through all different poses. No matter how deep the stretch, the jumpsuit stayed put and didn’t bunch or ride up. I didn’t have to keep adjusting my outfit like with some yoga pants.

And the sweat-wicking fabric lived up to its promise – it dried quickly, keeping me cool and comfortable throughout my vinyasa flow. The jumpsuit passed the yoga test with flying colors! But I also wanted something I could wear to brunch or running errands on the weekend.

Comparing Materials and Features

During my Zella jumpsuit try-on sessions, I became well-versed in the different materials and features. The compression jersey fabric delivered the best blend of stretch, breathability, and moisture management. It moved with me like a second skin.

I also loved jumpsuits made from merino wool which was temperature regulating and antimicrobial. The ponte knit styles were soft, thicker, and had tons of stretch – almost like leggings. Other fabrics like nylon and polyester blends were quick-drying but less flexible.

Some jumpsuits had mesh panel detailing for breathability and comfort where you need it most. I preferred adjustable crossed back straps instead of fixed halter straps for a more customized fit. And a drawstring waist for cinching or loosening as needed.

The perfect jumpsuit for me would bring together the best fabric with functional details to enhance comfort, wearability, and style.

How Zella Compares to Other Brands

As a longtime Lululemon devotee, I was skeptical that Zella could measure up in quality and performance. But I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with the craftsmanship and design of the Zella jumpsuits. The fabrics felt nice and thick, not flimsy or sheer like cheaper athletic brands.

The fit was tailored yet flexible with flattering seam lines and coverage. I would certainly rank Zella on par with my beloved LuLulemon leggings in terms of look, feel, and durability. And at a fraction of the price – score!

Some other aspects that set Zella apart: chic, colorful washes not found elsewhere; unique stylish details like crossover straps, strappy backs, or mesh; a wider variety of hems and leg shapes; and an emphasis on all-day wearability from studio to street. The Zella jumpsuit staple definitely earned a spot in my activewear wardrobe!

Hunting for the Best Deals

Now that I had narrowed down the perfect jumpsuit features, it was time to hunt for sales and deals. The typical Zella jumpsuit ranges from $80 to $120 depending on the style. While not outrageous, I tried to be thrifty in my shopping quest.

Luckily, I discovered Nordstrom offers lots of discounts and promotions on Zella since it’s their in-house brand. I signed up for the Nordstrom card to get early shopper access and free shipping. During the bi-annual sales, I scored a high-neck black jumpsuit for 25% off!

I also hunted on Nordstrom Rack’s website where I found last season’s colors marked down 50%. And I checked Poshmark for lightly used Zella jumpsuits in great condition. With a little deal-digging, I ended up with three fabulous jumpsuits for about $50 bucks each – I was stoked!

The Moment of Truth

After weeks of searching, it was time to decide. I had narrowed it down to two top contenders: a black cold-shoulder with mesh paneling and a blue halter jumpsuit in compression jersey. I loved them both for different reasons.

The black was edgier and sexier with the cold-shoulder cutouts and crisscross straps. The fabric was thick and sculpting like leggings. But the blue was so fun and vibrant – perfect for summer. And the fit was beyond amazing – it moved seamlessly with my body.

As I stood there debating in front of the mirror, I knew in my gut the blue halter ticked all the boxes:

✔ Buttery-soft jersey fabric

✔ Breathable and sweat-wicking

✔ Flattering slim fit with room to move

✔ Adjustable halter straps for customization

✔ Drawstring waist to cinch or loosen

✔ Fun bright color – a wardrobe energizer!

This was definitely the jumpsuit of my dreams. Case closed!

Bringing Home the Perfect Zella Jumpsuit

After all the researching, shopping, comparing, and trying on, I finally found my ideal Zella jumpsuit. The blue halter checks off everything on my wishlist: stylish, functional for yoga, and comfortable enough to wear all day long. It makes me feel sexy, sporty, and put together.

I love throwing it on to run to the market or wear to a patio dinner. I always get compliments on the fun, energetic color when I take it to yoga class. And the fit is so flattering and flexible, I feel like I’m moving in my own skin.

For my body type and lifestyle, this jumpsuit is absolute perfection. The hunt for the holy grail Zella jumpsuit was so worth it. I can’t wait to enjoy this staple for seasons to come. It will definitely motivate me to keep searching for those perfect pieces that are both beautiful and functional.
