Our History
Evan Picone was launched in 1949 by designer Charles Picone and his brother Irving Picone. Born and raised in New York City, the Picone brothers grew up in a family passionate about tailoring and fashion design. After Charles apprenticed under a master tailor and Irving learned the ins and outs of manufacturing garments, the duo decided to go into business together.
They opened their first storefront on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, selling Charles’ original designs for women’s suits, dresses, and separates. His collections featured clean lines, impeccable tailoring, and fine fabrics—hallmarks that came to define the Evan Picone aesthetic. The brand was an immediate success. Within a few years, Evan Picone expanded into department stores and opened additional locations.
In 1962, the Picone brothers made a landmark deal with clothing manufacturer Puritan Fashions to produce Evan Picone designs for the mass market. This move made Evan Picone one of the first high-end designers to create affordable, stylish clothing for the American woman. Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Evan Picone continued to grow in popularity for its polished sportswear and mix-and-match pieces.
