Our story begins in Milan, the fashion capital of the world. It was here that our founder, Enrico Gallo, first dreamed of launching a men’s fashion brand that would blend Italian style with approachable luxury. Enrico had always been fascinated by the transformative power of clothing. As a teenager, he’d save up to buy his first well-made suit – and was amazed at how wearing it made him feel self-assured and dignified.
He wondered – why should this feeling be limited to special occasions and the wealthy elite? Why not democratize it, and bring thoughtfully designed suits and elevated basics to men from all walks of life?
In 2000, after cutting his teeth working for some of Milan’s most prestigious fashion houses, Enrico decided to make his vision a reality. He founded Egara with just 5 suits and a small workshop. His goal was simple: to provide stylish, high-quality wardrobe essentials at an affordable price point.
He focused on clean silhouettes and fine natural fabrics, crafting suits, shirts, pants and accessories that are both timeless and fresh. The name “Egara” was inspired by the Egeria aqueduct that runs below Milan, representing his desire to channel the city’s creative energy.
Word soon spread about this upstart brand punching above its weight. Egara gained a loyal following of customers who appreciated the careful attention given to every garment. Some highlights of what makes the “Egara Difference”:
Our Fabrics
We source only the best natural fibers like wool, cotton, linen and silk from mills around the world. The majority of our suiting is 100% wool, with options ranging from Super 120s to 180s wool. For optimal wrinkle resistance and shape retention, we use high-twist yarns for finer construction.
For shirts, we use premium Sea Island cotton woven in Italy – with long staple fiber for a smooth feel and luster. Our linens come from Belgian mills using traditional techniques like stonewashing for optimal softness. And our silk is decadently lightweight, yet substantial.
We work directly with these mills to ensure the fibers and fabric quality meet our exacting standards in both form and function.
Our Design
Our in-house team in Milan works with the latest technology paired with old-world craftsmanship. We start by hand sketching designs, then create digital patterns with specialized 3D software. This helps visualize how the garment will actually fit and drape.
Next comes the cutting – done by hand, not machine, for optimal precision. Our master tailors inspect each piece before it’s passed to the sewing team. Every stitch is meticulously sewn using the finest threads.
And we obsess over the little details that matter – from custom-milled Italian horn buttons to the perfect lining in jackets. The result is clothing with impeccable fit, flattering lines, and many years of everyday wearability.
While our core designs are timeless, we also refresh our collections each season to keep things interesting. Expect modern takes on classics like adding new fabrics, updating lapels and lining, altering pocket placement – refined evolutions of the staples you already love.
